Pensions Scotland

The FBU attended the Scottish Firefighters Pensions Forum on 23rd June 2014 to discuss the latest developments in Scotland in relation to pensions.

At this meeting Scottish civil servants were given a detailed explanation of the challenges faced and discussions that have been held with the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), they were also advised on the benefits of using active early retirement factors for calculating actuarial reductions as opposed to the current method of utilising deferred early retirement factors.

The civil servants informed us that they would be reporting the points raised by the FBU.

On 25th June the General Secretary received a letter from Roseanna Cunningham MSP, the Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs, inviting the FBU to further discussion in relation to the points raised. She also requested any information relating to the discussions prior to the meeting. (This letter is attached for your information). The FBU will be arranging to meet as requested to discuss this issue in more detail.

Due to the positive signals being given by the Scottish Government the Executive Council did not include Scotland in any forthcoming industrial action.
